Ou aqui. Um show bobinho de 1980 com Jaco Pastorius, Pat Metheny, Michael Brecker… Uf! Logo abaixo, repetida, a lindíssima letra escrita por Joni. E, lá embaixo, como extra, coloco o célebre solo de Pastorius que seguia Pork Pie no show.

    Contexto: como sabemos, “Goodbye pork-pie hat” (1959), de Mingus, era um tributo ao então recém-falecido Lester Young, o qual está representado no título da composição pela menção ao chapéu em forma de “pork pie” que usava.

    História: Em 1979, Joni Mitchell, por sua vez, gravou um disco inteiro em homenagem ao ainda vivo Mingus, e com algumas composições do próprio – executadas por músicos “elétricos”, entre eles o grande Jaco Pastorius (há, aliás, outros bons álbuns de Mitchell com Pastorius, sendo “Hejira” [1976] uma excelente pedida para iniciantes e iniciados).

    Derivação: quanto ao Pastorius, já dizia Pat Metheny: “Se originalidade pagasse royalties, Jaco seria um dos homens mais ricos do mundo.” Metheny disse isso porque muitos contrabaixistas elétricos passaram a usar, sem escrúpulos, o timbre fretless de Pastorius, que todos bem conhecemos. Até mesmo nas plagas porto-alegrenses, o bom André Gomes (quase sempre um “Stanley Clarke man”, devoto do slap onanista) não deixou de copiar descaradamente o timbre de Pastorius [ouçam a composição “Speechless” do Weather Report e depois “Nosferatu”, do bom e velho, mas já extinto, grupo gaúcho Cheiro de Vida]).

    Atualização: para maiores detalhes e entrecruzamentos, vejam, por exemplo, o site de um certo PQP Bach – e baixem o CD “Mingus”, de Joni Mitchell, de lá. Lamento, contudo, que PQP Bach não disponibilize cd algum de Pastorius, cuja morte, diga-se de passagem, completará 22 anos amanhã… Deve ser ressentimento familiar, afinal Pastorius gravou “Chromatic fantasy” de Johann Sebastian, e nada de PQP Bach.
